Segunda-feira, 07 // Último show de Brent Smedley com o Tempest Reign

Como já havíamos noticiado a mais de um mês atrás, Brent Smedley (atual baterista do Iced Earth), fará seu último show com sua outra banda, Tempest Reign, na sexta-feira dia 11 de Maio no The French Quarter, Jackonville, Alabama, EUA.
Esse show será parte da festa de lançamento do primeiro álbum da banda, chamado "Catastrophic", no qual Brent gravou todas as faixas.

Hello to all Brazilian Iced Earth fans and to all the fans around the world.
Friday nite May 11th at the French Quarter is the Tempest Reign CD release party for the new album "Catastrophic". This will be my farewell performance with the band and probably the last time I will play live in Jacksonville for about a year. So if you've ever seen me play or if you've never seen me play come on out. This nite will go down in Metal history.

Com Jon Schaffer, líder do Iced Earth e o produtor Jim Morris trancafiados no estúdio Morrisound em Tampa, Eua, nesta semana para mixar o próximo disco da banda, “Framing Armageddon”,  conversamos com Jon Schaffer antes dele entrar em exílio temporário na Flórida para questionar qual o equipamento ele tem e estará usando para gravar o novo material, começando com o lançamento do novo single "Overture of the Wicked" (4 de Junho na Europa e 5 de Junho nos Estados Unidos). Aqui está o que o Jon tem a dizer:

"Eu uso as guitarras da Gibson, principalmente a Les Paul, mas qualquer Gibson Explorer, SG, 135, 335 também serve. Todas elas comandam. Eu também usei uma guitarra feita por David Thomas McNaught chamada "Phoenix Rising" por quase todas as linhas principais no novo disco. É um instrumento fantástico e possivelmente a melhor guitarra elétrica que eu já toquei. Eu normalmente uso Fender Stratocasters nas passagens limpas no estúdio, mas usei minha '"Red Baron" Gretsch em diversas passagens limpas dessa vez. Eu toco as acústicas da Taylor exclusivamente, elas são guitarras simplesmente fantásticas e dentre as melhores já produzidas.”

"Eu tenho usado amplificadores personalizados feitos para mim pelo Larry Grohmann nos últimos 15 anos. Esse é e sempre será meus amplificadores, pois o Larry os desenvolveu em cima do meu estilo de tocar e é de longe o melhor amplificador com que toquei e eu já toquei com muitos amplificadores diferentes. Meus amplificadores Larry e os gabinetes da Marshall tem sido meus equipamentos principais durante as turnês e durante as gravações. No entanto, eu usei diferentes amplificadores nas duas partes do épico "Something Wicked" porque eu queria dinâmicas diferenciadas e formatos de tons diferenciados para contar as estórias. Eu usei um amplificador muito bom para todas as minhas linhas principais chamado Splawn Quick Rod. Eu também gosto muito dos amplificadores da Divided By 13, Orange, Engl, Roccaforte, Vox, Voodoo, VHT, Trainwreck e claro, da Marshall e Fender e todos estão presentes no novo disco, em um determinado ponto ou em outro.”

"Outro elemento muito importante são as escolhas dos captadores das minhas guitarras. Além da Gibson, que geralmente são excelentes, eu amo os captadores do Jim Wagner, especialmente o jogo da Goodwood e o jogo da Bet, mas todos eles detonam. Eu também gosto muito dos diversos jogos desenvolvidos pelo Tim Mills da Bare Knuckle Pickups chamados Black Dog e Riff Raff, sendo esses os meus favoritos, mas todos eles são muito bons. Depende muito do que você está procurando. No entanto, claro, eu tenho alguns Seymour Duncan e também SG Supreme com Dimebucker”.

"Eu tenho usado cordas D'Addarrio por 20 anos. Eu uso as 12’s para minhas linhas principais e 11’s nas Stratocasters. Nas linhas de baixo eu gravei usando a Gene Simmons Punisher Bass, uma Ibanez de cinco cordas e um baixo especial do Steve Harris Fender Precision Bass. Eu liguei eles no Ampeg SVT head e em gabinetes 8x10 junto do Marshall VBA 400. Eu também usei um pedal Fulltone Bass Drive na frente dos amplificadores para ter um pouquinho de força e funcionou muito bem. Para as músicas que o Dennis gravou, ele usou o baixo Warmick dele na mesma aparelhagem, mas mudou um pouquinho para complementar seu estilo”.

"Eu comprei uma bateria Drum Workshop preta com hardware escuro para o Brent usar nessa gravação. Vai ser o kit de gravação original do Iced Earth. O som é muito bom. Eu adoraria levar na turnê, mas iria ser toda destruída e eu não posso a perder. Nós temos um kit da Pearl excelente que usamos nas turnês”.

"Eu gosto de aparelhagem, mas não sou uma prostituta. Uma prostituta de aparelhagem são aquelas pessoas que usam a condição de celebridade, não importando o quão insignificante são, para ir a eventos tipo o show do NAMM e tentar conseguir aparelhagem de graça. Essas pessoas vem do mesmo lugar, são perdedores. Não sejam como eles”.

"Há algumas empresas que eu apoio profundamente e possuem arranjos especiais, mas apenas tratamos com as empresas nas quais eu realmente acredito. Eu prefiro minha integridade do que merdas de graça, mas esse sou eu. Me chame de louco”.

Iced Earth is back with their new Single which is related back to the amazing “Something Wicked …” album!

The single consists four songs! One new song and also the Wicked trilogy re-recorded and re-sang from Tim “Ripper” Owens. Tracklist in more details is:

1. Ten Thousand Strong
2. Prophecy
3. Birth of the Wicked
4. The Coming Curse

“Ten Thousand Strong” a classic Iced Earth song attack of fast guitars, double bass drumming and amazing vocals from Ripper. The song starts fast with a high “pitch” scream from Ripper! m/. Ripper makes the chorus and part of the song more emotional with his vocal performance although from the other hand Jon makes the song heavier and faster with his guitar aggression.

“Prophecy” is the let down song from the single. The song is slower and less heavy than the original. Although Ripper does an amazing vocal performance, I haven’t heard him singing like that before. Jon has changed the solo making it heavier and with more “cutting edge”. To be honest Ripper saves the song!

”Birth of the Wicked” is as good as the original song! Ripper does a really good job with this song, he doesn’t copy Matt but he sings it in his own way making it more interesting. Once again the solo has been changed with twin guitar solo attack. The new version is enjoyable and as good as the original.

”The Coming Curse” still banging like the original version! The piano doesn’t takes place like in the original trilogy. The song goes straight to the point! What ever I write for this song will not be enough, although to get over this song I heard it 9 times continuously.

A great single a great some back from Iced Earth, I wanted to put 5 out of 5 but Prophecy is a really bad re-recording, it feels like Iced Earth did a cover on one of their own songs.

Anunciado novo guitarrista do Iced Earth

Jon Schaffer anunciou o novo guitarrista do Iced Earth, seu nome é Troy Seele.
Troy tocou alguns solos no novo álbum e excursionará em turnê com a banda.

"Ele tem sido meu amigo por mais ou menos 10 anos e ele é de Indianapolis. Ele é, de longe, o melhor guitarrista em Indianapolis e estará trazendo novas vibrações para a banda."
